Rooftop Santa with Mini Me 2002
Rooftop2002MM.mpg

2007 has been the most amazing and rewarding year yet for Santa Tom and Mrs. Claus. It was fantastic to see all the people we've had the pleasure to over the last few years as well as meeting many many new people. You just never get over the joy and expression on a child's face, even the adults when that special moment of meeting Santa occurs.

Once again the media was most kind in portraying Santa in a positive light. Mrs. Claus and I appeared in multiple publications in print as well as television, radio, Internet and a couple of Independent film projects. Santa appeared on the two major local newspaper front pages on the same day and then again in the Capital News multiple times as part of an advertising campaign and once more on the front page and inner page as part of a great in-depth article entitled "Looking for the Christmas Spirit". Actually every year Santa is asked to do interviews which I'm very proud to do. As well as local interviews by CHBC Television, and the Capital News, "Conversations with Mrs. Claus" for the Family Yak Channel in Australia, 1290AM in London and second year Ryerson University student Kasandra Bracken. This year Santa also appeared on the cover of Business Mechanical, a national magazine for the trades. Mrs. Claus was treated to a published photo without me in it! Nice to have her recognized on her own with all the good work she does and represents.

As much as all the publicity is good for ones ego it is really so much more. To be recognized is an obvious benefit to making more appearances. For children that see the same Santa and Mrs. Claus it adds to the reality and the belief that they have seen the real ones not just helpers. To be recognized by the media so often is validation that we're doing things right and appreciated. This is particularly true when it comes to supporting our local charities and organizations. There are many things that Mrs. Claus and I support that we gladly lend a face to such as the Kelowna General Hospital, the Kelowna Food Bank Christmas in July, the Kelowna Drop-in Centre Christmas dinner, the BC Children's Hospital Festival of Trees, Variety - the Children's Charity and our Blood Donor Clinic, the Women's Shelter and Ronald McDonald Breakfast with Santa to name only some. These are the times we're most proud to see our pictures in the papers and on television. These are not about us but what the Christmas spirit represents; helping one another and if Santa's presence can in anyway attract attention and lend support then it's all worth while.

Of course the children are the favorites. Those wide wondering eyes, so full of belief and innocence. Our hope for the future. Of course the adults can be allot of fun as well but to be a part of a child's view of the world helping to shape it in a positive way is an amazing feeling. For those that are well we hope to demonstrate value and giving. For those suffering temporarily or with serious conditions we hope to bring a smile, a moment of joy and maybe just a little bit of hope.

With 2007 the debut of my 6 story, 30 minute Christmas Stories with Santa DVD became a reality and success. I'm very proud to say that the DVD was well accepted and complimented by all. 2007 also became the year I decided to sit down and start writing. Among the projects are two books. One based on beard and hair care for others in my profession and another all about what it's like to be Santa, how I got here and my perspective of the persona. Other writing projects will include new stories for a second Christmas Stories with Santa DVD,  a script of two for some film projects I've had in mind as well as a split screen co-project.

Another thing that rose up this year was the formation of the Fraternity of International Real Bearded Santas. An association of real bearded Santas dedicated to the life and times of looking the way we do each and every day of the year. Drop in and meet some of my best friends from across the globe.

I'd also like to thank all of those who support us in appearances, advertising contracts and other venues which are paid. This is what makes it possible to appear on behalf of the charities and others who cannot or should not afford a Santa appearance. I've often said "we don't do this for the money but it is the money that allows us to do what we do".

On behalf of myself, my Mrs. and our elves I'd like to thank you all for allowing us to be a part of your Christmas celebrations and look forward to many years of friendship and association.

Santa Tom Kliner - Kelowna, BC Canada.

2006 continued with carry over TV spots which had Santa on local television daily for approx. 6 months straight. Late June was the Food Banks Christmas in July appearance at the downtown after 5 event.

This year also led way to the first International Discover Santa Convention held in Branson, Missouri in July.  What a time! 300 real bearded Santas (RBS) along with many wives, helpers and TV crews descended upon and were welcomed by the City of Branson. Yours truly is very proud to have been one of the 26 workshop presenters and to have participated in such a phenomenal event. Alongside my brothers in red there was also a Red Suit parade that many came to see. The Convention itself and parade were covered by many in the media garnering attention on at least USA Today, ABC, NBC and the Disney Channel.

In September I was asked to do a photo shoot with two wonderful realtors portraying our "Okanagan Heat". Wow! Picture this - Two beautiful women, sunny, beach, million dollar plus beach house... and they call this work!

As November came Santa was chauffeured by SUV Limousine for a week long advertising blitz. It was so popular that several days were added and more photos than anticipated were used as well as more often than originally dreamt of. Nearing the end of November of course comes the beginnings of the company, private parties and charity events that we're always proud to attend.

December of course is when things really speed up! Company parties, tree lightings, downtown light-ups, private parties, charity appearances and fund raisers all pack into a few short weeks. Media attention this year was phenomenal! This year Santa Tom appeared in USA Today, St. Lois Dispatch, Chicago Tribune, Kelowna Capital News, Kelowna Daily Courier, various Can West Media and Time Magazine. Santa Tom also appeared on NBC, ABC, Disney Channel, CHBC, Shaw Cable 11 and MTV Television.

Again Mrs. Claus was able to work with me at several events. Aside from the usual events and parties there are a few places that we appear that we are especially proud to be a part of. This years charity events included the Kelowna Community Food Bank, Kelowna Drop-in Centre, Kelowna General Hospital. Ronald McDonald House Breakfast with Santa and the BC Children's Hospital Festival of Trees.

Now that we've got a few years under our belts we're starting to notice a few things. We have been fortunate to work for and with some of the best people around. Because of the repetitive appearances at and for so many places not only are Santa and Mrs. Claus beginning to recognize the children and adults year after year we also are starting to see and recognize them all about throughout the rest of the year and because so many of the children see us in so many places they really believe that they have met the real Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Now as well as being the owner and moderator of Santa's Across the Globe (SATG)  with over 300 members world wide, Santa Tom has been elected as VP of the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas (AORBS) which includes over 1100 members. An accomplishment I'm very proud of.

2005/2004 Some truly fabulous things happened in 2004 & 2005. My highest moment for 2005 was being flown out to Vancouver, courtesy of West Jet to present $100,000 dollars from an anonymous donor, along with an additional $50,000 both to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation Lights of Hope campaign http://www.helpstpauls.com/lights_of_hope.htm. While there my stay was courtesy of the Holiday Inn. I'd like to thank the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation for inviting me and to be a part of there celebration. Lighting the hospital with Harry Varshney was quite an honor.  More soon.

2003 Some of the many things we were able to do for 2003 was to participate in a variety of events, media, corporate and private parties as well as some very heart rendering private appearances. This has been an incredibly fabulous year for media attention. In various combinations of Santa/Mrs. Claus/Scooter Dee we participated in a TV commercial, were featured in several newspapers, magazines and did a number of radio interviews. Along with doing a some of the Okanagan's largest company parties we started the season in Penticton by being a part of the first annual International Craft Fair, we then all participated in the Kelowna Tree of Hope Light-Up, did some extensive work for the Downtown Vernon Association amongst many of our obligations. Our Santa's Across the Globe MSN group has blossomed to near 100 in a single year with several satellite groups forming and our association with other groups I estimate our Santa/helper base to be approx. 500 across the globe, we are presently working on a Santa Claus Hall of Fame. MSN Groups has since become Multiply.

On Christmas Eve day, Mrs. Claus and our Elf accompanied Santa for our second annual  tour of Kelowna General Hospital. The three of us were greeted by our volunteer guide  Georgie again and welcomed by security. We'd like to thank Penny Venables for making the arrangements again allowing these visits to be possible. The greetings received from staff and patients alike are what make these visits most worthwhile. We toured about 95% of the hospital and although we were there for everyone we were very happy that there were very few children having to spend Christmas Eve in the hospital this year.

The absolute pride of the season has to be my visit to Vancouver on Christmas Eve. One Father and Mother decided that they would make their 11 yr old daughters likely last year of believing in Santa very special. I say likely because it went so well that she may believe now till she's 25! Along with all going very well and being one of the nicest families I've had the pleasure to meet they had purchased gifts and made arrangements for me to deliver them to a well deserving family before coming to their house. I don't know all of the details but that the other family was very special by having taken several children into their home along with their own that required very special care and as I understood it would likely be two of the children's last Christmas. It was among many things very emotional and I am very proud to have been a part of it. For those of you who don't know not only did this all require a great deal of planning and timing, there was a 1 hour flight along with 2 hrs of limo's and taxi's each way.

There were some major changes in our schedule this year do to late differences with the shopping centre's new marketing manager. As we did not appear at Orchard Park this year it left us quite free to do some very fine appearances in a variety of venues that were absolutely fantastic! Although this did disappoint those that were expecting us at the Mall it was great for others and it also meant more opportunity for Mrs. Claus and Scooter Dee our Elf to join in with Santa.

Stay tuned for news on 2004 happenings as we have some fabulous plans. Have started booking a number of 2004 events as far back as November so if you're thinking about it might I suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.

2002 is now over and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that helped and participated in making this another incredible year.

Mrs. Claus was able to join Santa on weekends at the Mall. She was well received and much appreciated by all. The additional ambiance created was certainly a pleasure.

Available for all types of occasions. Shopping Centre's, Advertising, Photo Sessions, Staff Parties, Schools, Promotions etc. And yes, we do house calls. Rates available on request. Also available are Santa with Elf and/or Mrs. Claus. Both Elf and Mrs. Claus arrive in full costume as well.

Have had excellent results playing Santa and to say the least, it's a lot of fun. This year has been the best yet!

Santa Tom has a real beard, lives in Kelowna and can be available for appearances throughout the year. Although my favorite place is in the Okanagan just prior to Christmas, travel is possible. Book early to reserve your time!

December 2001 Santa Tom appeared professionally for the first time at Orchard Park Shopping Centre as well as some local schools, preschools, daycares and private functions.

Returning to Orchard Park Shopping Centre for 2002 as their only Santa has been an exceptional experience. Mrs. Claus has been able to come along on the weekends this year as well and has been received with open arms.

So far this December has proven to be really exciting for us. Our new visitor's age range that Santa has been able to hold and visit with is now 3 days old and 88 yrs young.

Mrs. Claus is kept plenty busy using her 'secretarial' skills helping friends and neighbors to have their pictures taken with the "Santa with the real beard", along with private function scheduling and getting Santa ready. Once again for 2005 things have 'heated' up as the requests have started even earlier. We are amazed and honored by the amount of people who continuously seek out Santa Tom for their photos and events. There were families that drive from as far away as Armstrong at their friends advice.

Now I have to admit I know my beard has often been a conversation piece, but never had I thought it would be such a hit. What I find to be most effective with the natural hair is that the doubtful can grab a handful, and with just a little magic can believe again for maybe another year.

Also available are Santa with Elf and/or Mrs. Claus as seen in pictures above. Both Elf and Mrs. Claus arrive in full costume as well. Mrs. Claus, our Elf and myself love the kids, seeing the sparkle in their eyes is magical and to be a part of making Christmas just a little more special is what it's really all about. Besides it's really a fun thing to do!

Every year we seem to 'grow' into the role just a little more. The hair and beard are longer and larger, bleached out to the max ( A special thanks to Mrs. Claus ). Brand new  suits accumulate each year ( A special thanks to Mrs. Claus ), natural tummy and hair for that added realism makes this Santa just that much more.

Santa's schedule will again fill quickly and will fill faster the closer we get to Christmas Eve. Please pick a preferred date & time with at least one back-up date to help make booking your time as easily as possible. Available for advertising and promotions. Please feel free to contact us about our "charitable rates".  Schedule permitting, there are certain organizations, groups and institutions where Santa  is quite willing to donate his time. Please feel free to ask.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and our Elf all enjoy the Christmas season and found that attitude and personality also go along way to making a happy Santa visit. Too say the least, a great time is had by all.

A huge well deserved Thank You to all those involved in  making Christmas 2001, 2002, 2003,  2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 such great events. Looking forward to 2008 and beyond.

Do you have pictures of your event that Santa attended? This web site is about to go through a major updating and I'd like to be able to include some photo's of your event that I/we attended. To do this I will need photo's that include myself along with permission to post of any other persons included in the shot. At the same time your event or company name will be included. Now please keep in mind that this site averages over 10,000 hits per month which means you'd get some free advertising out of having your name placed here. At the same time, if you don't want that many people seeing your name your name does not have to be published but I will need it for when permission is needed. Please also note that there are circumstances that do not require permission first to post names and/or photos however your photo could easily be cropped, altered or removed by request. I certainly would not wish to upset anyone. Please email Santa Tom at santas_home@hotmail.com.
